There are more than 25 alternatives to PS3 Media Server for a variety of platforms, including Linux, Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone. I have a Motorola DROID right now so it would be nice to have (Mostly because I won't need to have an extra copy of my media on the PC for DLNA), but I'm more interested on other improvements. PS3 Media Server is described as 'DLNA compliant Upnp Media Server for the PS3, written in Java, with the purpose of streaming or transcoding' and is a popular Media Server in the video & movies category. Maybe Andreas can give us a development time estimate What do you mean by a DLNA smartphone? Is that any different from a phone using a DLNA app over WiFi/cell phone network? Pretty much any smartphone should have it by now though with DLNA apps for them like Android and iPhone markets. I just don't think we'll see this feature anytime soon. There are still many other improvements needed for Showtime as a media player and that is it's primary use. Then remove the usb cord, and press the ps button again. I'm not a developer but it seems like a "long term" feature. All you have to do is follow these easy instructions: On your desktop: Download PS3 Media Server. It seems like this feature could take a lot of work and time to implement correctly, and you would need to support different conversion formats for different devices im sure. The best alternative until/if support is added into Showtime is just to use a PC, since everyone talking on here probably has one.

The same could be said about people not wanting to buy an expensive smartphone just for DLNA either :p I don't think anyone would buy an expensive device for just one task like this. I was just letting people know you can get similar functionality with a PSP on wifi (mainly for those who already own a PSP). I agree DLNA server support would be neat. Do you have any suggestions which one to use? If you use iPhone that is? Mostly because I didn't find a good control point (ie. I just didn't have time/motivation to finish that at the time. I had this in mind when i implemented the UPNP stack for Showtime.
PS3 MEDIA SERVER RENDERER CODE
Just another Will it be much work to implement starting the player, when media is beamed to ps3? Your dlna code already shows up on the smartphone as "showtime". Just select a single mp3 or even a whole playlist via phone.Īirplay is almost the same as DLNA. > in short : make your smartphone a ps3 remote controlįor listening to music it would be great, because you don't need the TV turned on. Like the smartphone tells the ps3 what it has to play/do. If showtime will have support as Digital Media Renderer, you could for example have a NAS with all your music, photos and videos on it browse them via your smartphone but let it play on your PS3. I quess maybe people don't really know, what "beaming" media via dlna is or don't know dlna that good anyway. I am wondering, why noone replied in here.
